Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a Member?

To become a member you must have an email address, if you don't have one see below for help on obtaining one.

Click on a "Not Registered?" button and fill in the Membership application form. NB all fields marked * must be completed before you application can be processed.

Why do I have to have an email address?

An email address is always unique, so we have decided to use it as a Member's username. In addition to this, email is used to confirm advert placement, notify members looking for dresses when a dress of interest is added to our listings and for us to notify members of enhancements as they are introduced.

How do I get an email address?

There are many service providers to choose from, we have selected a couple of popular ones who offer free email addresses. To find out more click on either of the links below.

How do I place an advert?

Hover over "Place Advert" (the right most button beneath the banner) with the mouse. Now select the type of advert you wish to place from the drop down menu. You are taken to a page giving you full information relevant to the type of advert you selected.

To place an advert click the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen. The advert placement form is displayed. Fields marked * must be completed. If your advert has images you can either upload them on-line or post them to us for us to scan for you.

My skirt and bodice are different sizes, which size should I input?

Input the dress as the larger size. This will ensure that when someone specifies either size as the minimum in a dress search, your dress will be selected. Show the sizes in the advert header (eg. Size 10/12) and in the body of the advert say what size the bodice and skirt are.

How do I reduce the size of my images without loosing quality?

  1. Scan images in RGB mode. The resolution you scan at will depend on the size of the source image, a standard photograph (5 x 7) should be scanned at about 150 ppi.
  2. Ensure that any unwanted bits of the image are cropped off.
  3. If you need to reduce the quality of an image to reduce the size be sure to use re-sample.

Don't forget, if all else fails, send the photographs to us indicating which one is 'main' (appears on the listing page). Ensure that you write your advert reference on the back. If you want us to send the photos back to you include a stamped addressed envelope.

How much of my contact information is made available on the web site?

Wanted adverts do not display any contact information, they simply act as an indicator that one of our Members is looking for a dress.

Dress adverts display your location (i.e. Town or City), name, phone number(s), fax number and email address.

Service adverts display all contact information including address and a link to your web site if applicable.

How do I alter my contact details?

To alter your contact details you must be logged in.
  1. Go to the 'Member's Area'.
  2. Log in if necessary then click on the 'Member Details' button. The Member Details page displays your contact details and any adverts you have created.
  3. Your contact details are displayed at the top of the page, to change them click on the 'Amend' button beneath.

How do I change my advert?

You can change your advert text and photographs whenever you like. The only restriction imposed is for dress adverts where price can not be increased above the original asking price.

  1. Ensure that you are logged in then click on the 'Member Details' button in the 'Member's Area'. This displays your contact details and adverts.
  2. To change an advert, first select the one you want to change then click on the relevant button directly beneath the list.

How do I cancel my Membership?

Your Membership can be cancelled at any time. Ensure that you are logged in then select 'Member Details' from the 'Member's Area'. Click on 'Cancel Membership'.

NB Cancellation of Membership will result in ALL adverts being cancelled.

I have replaced an image but the old image is still displayed

Most Internet browsers only load an image from the Web once during a session. This speeds up the display of pages you visit frequently. The downside of this is that if an image is updated on the web you will still see the old image. If the new image is a different shape the old image will be stretched and or squashed to fit into the new shape.

To view the updated image you need to force your browser to reload the images from the web. All browsers do this differently. In Internet Explorer you need to hold down the <Ctrl> key and click the refresh button. In Netscape you simply click on the reload button. If all else fails close the browser and start it again.
